Design involves much more than laying out a series of spaces according to our needs. To create truly inspired designs, we must inform each design decision with aesthetic and sensory expressiveness derived from the designer’s relationship with the surrounding physical environment, and then integrate these concepts holistically into the project. In this class we will explore ways in which an inspired structure has the potential to create a synergy with its surrounding environment. We will demonstrate how design is linked to our use of language (how we describe place and space) and how creative, graceful designs evolve from it. Participants will also look at high design and natural materials and investigate how these seemingly disparate elements can be integrated into the same design. This course is for anyone who dreams of designing a home, studio, or other structure that moves beyond a standard aesthetic into the truly elegant and inspired.
