Concrete is finding its way into the kitchens and bathrooms of many homes, but its striking beauty and infinite malleability provide creative opportunities far beyond its typical use for countertops. This intermediate-level class will explore the possibilities of concrete in a variety of dimensions, allowing forays into the realm of sculptural benches, sinks, fireplace surrounds, tables, and other furnishings.  We’ll introduce volume, explore straight and curved elements, delve into a variety of structural strategies, and experiment with integrating inset lettering and lighted elements. Students will also work with glass fiber reinforced concrete and use site-mixed concrete to anchor lighter pieces into permanent position. Designers, builders, and adventurous homeowners will be astounded by the endless potential concrete provides. Prior completion of Yestermorrow’s two-day Concrete Countertops workshop or some degree of experience working with concrete is recommended.
