Drafting 101
Course Description
Always wanted to learn architectural drafting? Drafting 101 will introduce you to all the main drawing conventions and give you tips on how to make your drawings into works of art. Come join us for this hands-on course in drafting and make your drawings sing! No prior experience is required and tools for the course are provided, including a drafting kit for students to take home and practice what they've learned.
Tentative Course Schedule
SATURDAY
9:00-9:30 Welcome and Orientation to Yestermorrow's campus
9:30-11:00 Introduction: The Art of Precision
Tools: lead holder, straightedge, parallel rule, adjustable triangle
Papers: trace, vellum, plastic film (Mylar is a trademark)
Drafting tape
Leads, Sharpener (hardness, pointing leads)
Setting up the sheet
Drawing the first line
Exercise: 6"x6" in HB/interior with 2H on vellum, h then v
11:00-11:30 Introduction to drawing conventions
Orthographic projections (plan, section, elevation)
Line weight
Dimensioning
Blue lines, black lines
Set of drawings (A-1.S-1.E-1.)
11:30-12:00 Exercise: select a favorite 6'x6' space in the building (including a vertical wall)
Measure and draw the plan at 1"=1'-0"
12:00-1:00 Lunch
1:00-2:00 Finish plan
Measure and draw the section
Section line on plan, scale, north arrow
2:00-3:00 Measure and draw the interior elevation
3:00-3:30 Render drawing, poche

9:00-10:00 Sketch one room cabin fantasy project, must have a loft with stairs
10:00-12:00 Draw plans, sketch cabin with furniture, dimension plans, scale, north arrow, section marker on plan
12:00-1:00 Lunch
