Introduction to AutoCAD
Course Syllabus

Course Description:
This class will focus on the basic techniques of creating two-dimensional drawings using AutoCAD. Through hands-on drawing exercises, students will become familiar with the most common (and useful) AutoCAD 2-D tools and principles. Students are encouraged to bring floor plans and/or elevations to draw once they are comfortable with the basics. Depending on interest and ability, simple 3-D techniques may be explored.
Specifics to be covered:
Getting familiar with the AutoCAD screen and its 7 main elements:
- Title bar and menu bar at the top
- Tool bars default setup
- Standard toolbar
- Object properties
- Draw toolbar
- Modify toolbar
- Status bar at the bottom: drawing limits and snap settings
- Startup dialog box
- Drawing area in the middle
- Command line
- AutoCAD selection settings:
- Noun/verb selection: enter a command and then choose the objects to which the command applies
- Using the shift key to add to selection
- Press and drag: click one corner, release, move cursor to next corner, click.
- Implied windowing: drag from left to right vs. right to left
- Use the Options/selection tab to set defaults to on
