The Fall Semester in Sustainable Design/Build provides more than just an outstanding educational experience. It offers students the opportunity to form a tight-knit community - living, working and learning together amidst a beautiful landscape and among a dynamic, creative, ecologically conscious, entrepreneurial population. As a Yestermorrow student, you'll be immersed in the world of design/build, surrounded by a community of people engaged and dedicated towards making the world a better place.
Program Location:
The semester programs will be hosted at Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA), in Montpelier - the vibrant capital of Vermont and the smallest state capital in the United States. Its atmosphere is sophisticated but unpretentious and it is a hub of activity and cultural events. It offers a vibrant downtown life with outstanding restaurants, intimate movie theaters, four bookstores, and a variety of locally owned shops. The Vermont College of Fine Arts campus sits atop a hill overlooking downtown and surrounded by views of the spectacular Worcester mountain range. The college includes a collection of historic buildings representing a variety of 19th century architectural styles, including the grand College Hall framed by a lovely tree-lined green. In summer, the green offers students a place to gather, relax, and play softball, Frisbee, or tennis. In winter, students will find downhill skiing less than 30 minutes away in Stowe, Sugarbush, or other nearby resorts, or cross-country skiing and snowshoeing just off campus. In any season, Montpelier offers ample walking routes, either around the town’s charming neighborhoods or in Hubbard Park, a wooded city park with well-maintained trails. Montpelier is easily accessible by train, bus, car, or air. It’s less than three hours northwest of Boston and two hours south of Montreal. Vermont’s largest city, Burlington, is less than an hour away by car, bus, or shuttle service.
Housing:
Semester Program students are housed on the VCFA campus in classic New England style dormitories. Individual dorm rooms share two beds per unit, with desks, lamps and closets. Each floor offers a lounge area, showers and bathrooms. Laundry facilities are available in-house.
Meals:
We encourage students and faculty to eat together on campus, enhancing cohesiveness and a sense of community, both of which are central to the learning experience. Mealtimes are in the cafeteria, which is run by the internationally known New England Culinary Institute (NECI). NECI, a school with an excellent reputation, provides three meals a day in an on-campus cafeteria. Well-balanced meals with vegetarian alternative entrees, homemade breads, desserts, and a full salad bar are provided. Mealtimes also provide an opportunity for dialogue among faculty, students, and visitors. This classic college dining hall service is offered to Yestermorrow students, Vermont College students, NECI students, and the public.
Health and Safety:
All semester program students are required to abide by Yestermorrow's Health and Safety Policies.
