Yumiko Foust Virant

MFA, Cranbrook Academy; B.Arch, Virginia Tech

Yumiko grew up in Winston-Salem, NC and graduated with a Bachelors of Architecture from Virginia Tech College of Architecture and Urban Studies in 1997. She continued her education at Cranbrook Academy of Art earning a Master of Fine Art from the Department of Printmaking in 1999. She has worked in many wonderful architecture firms in Chicago, Vermont and Asheville. She and her husband, Tom founded Virant Design and Virant Architecture and work together to design and build custom homes in the Southeast. Her design sense is deeply rooted in her childhood summers spent in Japan with her grandparents. She is attracted to beautiful objects and quiet spaces. She finds great pleasure in creating graceful and thoughtful spaces for people to spend their lives.
