The Yestermorrow Design/Build School offers a number of scholarship, work trade and discount opportunities for students. Our goal is to make our classes affordable for students who may need financial assistance and would otherwise be unable to attend. We encourage all scholarship applicants to participate in our work trade program, although we can make exceptions (in the form of tuition, travel, or room and board scholarships) for people who can demonstrate that work trade is not a viable or adequate option for them.

Applications are reviewed on a monthly basis and are considered on a first-come, first-served basis as long as funding is available.

  • Applicants will be notified of their scholarship award within 4 weeks of application
  • If eligible for a scholarship, the amount awarded to the student is calculated based on the student’s financial need and the cost of the course (and expenses if applicable). Students can apply for scholarship for a maximum of 3 courses per year.
  • A deposit ($100 – weekend workshop, $300 – 1-week course, $500-2-week course) is required to hold your space in a course. We will refund your deposit if we are unable to offer you a scholarship.
  • If you are approved for a scholarship, you will be notified by email and your online account will be adjusted accordingly and be reflected in your balance. Any outstanding balance will need to be paid in full at least two weeks before the first day of class.
  • If approved for work trade, all hours must be completed before the start of your class. Any outstanding balance will need to be paid in full at least two weeks before the first day of class.

Who is eligible?
Applicants who demonstrate financial need.

Vermont residents are encouraged to apply through the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) non-degree grant program before seeking a Yestermorrow scholarship. They can be reached at 800-882-4166 or www.vsac.org.

Veterans
Veterans of the U.S. military are now eligible to use their GI Bill benefits for certificate programs. The Vermont State Approving Agency has approved Yestermorrow’s Certificate in Sustainable Building and Design and Natural Building Certificate for the education and training of eligible military personnel, veterans and their dependents. For more information, please visit http://www.gibill.va.gov/ or call 888-442-4551 to find out how to enroll.

Work trade
Work trade students are involved in various activities that range from office support to campus maintenance and clean up. Duties can vary from organizing a mailing or cleaning the woodshop, to cutting the grass or building shelves for the studio. We try to find projects that match an individual's skills and experience but we cannot make any guarantees about the kind of work a student might be asked to do. Flexibility, initiative and a sense of humor are required.

Work trade must be performed between 8:30-5:00 Monday through Friday, but working times are flexible within those hours. Each hour of work trade completed equals a ten dollar tuition reduction (ex. 10 hours worked equals $100 tuition reduction). Standard maximum levels are up to 10 hours for a weekend course, 30 hours for a one-week course, and 50 hours for a two-week course.

If you are applying for work trade, please remember to indicate the dates you are available on your application.

Scholarships
Scholarships are available for tuition, travel, child care and room and board. Please indicate which type(s) you are applying for on the application.
