Microclimate Design

This one-day intensive explores small-scale climates as they affect building siting, outdoor living space and working landscapes.  The course focuses on strategies for harnessing on-site microclimates and techniques for developing new microclimates. The course begins by exploring Yestermorrow's diverse landscape identifying and discussing existing microclimates. Most of the course will be spent designing spaces that utilize and develop microclimates for multiple uses.  Microclimate elements such as greenhouses, solar arcs, windbreaks and slopes will be given particular attention.  Particular emphasis will also be given to using indigenous materials such as stone, wood, water and earth in outdoor living space construction.
