This hands-on workshop will focus on the development and application of creative, environmentally conscious, built-design-based thinking, drawing, and building.  Through class design charrettes, building design development, and tree-framing construction, students will develop a schematic design and complete a comprehensive, small  scale trellis/roof structure for an exterior wine-tasting area at Lincoln Peak Winery of New Haven, VT.   Though the class will focus on raw tree-based carpentry and chain-saw notching, it will also involve many other skills essential to completing an entire structure, including sketching, drafting, carpentry, structural concrete/stone work, client communication, ecological analysis and strategy implementation.  Additional activities will include schematic, after-hours master planning/design studies for future installations at the site.  The class will also feature lectures, field trips to relevant built works, and construction/material research.
